[about cjml]

The Chicago Junior Mathematics League is sponsored by the Chicago Public Schools’ Office of Mathematics in order to encourage students to challenge themselves mathematically. This year, schools from all over the city of Chicago will compete in three contests (two “regular” contests plus a final contest in May).

The CJML has three goals:
  • To institute a series of contests that complements the content of and improves performances in Mathcounts and other statewide competitions;
  • To provide the type of preparation and experience that students who are interested in high school math competitions will need to succeed; and
  • To have ALL students interact with each other to hone and develop their mathematical and problem solving skills.
Each contest consists of individual and team rounds. Contests will take place at Whitney Young High School. The competition is divided into two grade levels: 7th grade and 8th grade. An advanced student who has already completed the course for his/her grade level (for example, a 7th grader who has taken Algebra) may compete at a higher grade level. At all contests, medals are awarded to the top five students or teams in each category. Trophies are awarded to the top performing teams and schools at each contest.
